One condition will be that we not give up on installing any one distro because it seems too hard to configure. This way we both learn a lot from it. The other condition is that we not bias each other towards any one distro.

Mini installfest coming up here
My son and I are going to do a sort of mini installfest. Since I've been vascillating with what I want to do with my secondary hard drive, and he's not sure what he wants to do with his main one, we are going to be completing online installations of various distros, until we either find one we like, or drop dead

Good idea but don't take Gentoo You don't have the time:) I set it up and had a running server (no GUI) and then I just dropped it because I cannot use a day to change the settings in the future. It is good learning tho.. I am now installing Arch with the chakra KDE.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Eh, I think we're just gonna go wherever the thing takes us. If it goes to Gentoo, then so be it, y'know?

Eh, okay then.
(Although my clients at work would disagree with you...)
But, we will be doing this when we have plenty of time. Probably on my next furlough from work.

Distro-depending, I'll post progress with each one as we go to the Distro talk section.
Yep, always something to learn.

Yep the error's of my ways can save you a lot of head aches if you try Arch with the chakra (modular) KDE version - it is now solved in the distro talk section.

Re: Mini installfest coming up here
To be honest, I haven't been too much into the Chakra yet. I have the manual for Arch printed out, so it's no big deal any more to get installed and configured. Actually, it wasn't anyway; I remember the last times I installed it with the manual, thinking, man, people think this is hard? It really isn't. It just can be time-consuming, is all (and I'm getting faster and faster with it with each installation of it I do).

Re: Mini installfest coming up here
+1 My feelings exactly - I don't really understand what chakra is for! It sure is not any easier than Arch pure. (It could have been if it was not that buggy and malfunctioning). I see no reason to go there (I have been there now - so I know).

My own opinion is that Chakra may have its place once it matures. It's still very young.

So what distro did you end up with? I bet it was Mandriva right?
