Mandriva has started marketing!

Postby viking60 » 01 Nov 2010, 12:50

ImageMandriva made the front page of Maximum Linux and apparently the issue is all about Mandriva 2010.1. This is a new approach compared to recent years and really what the community has wanted for a long time.
Mandriva has the ambition to be the worlds best KDE distro. In the prosess the company will leave it up to the community to continue Gnome and all the other desktops.
Even if the community distribution will be KDE focused, we will encourage the community to build Gnome, LXDE, XFCE, E17, … versions as value options. The infrastructure to help the community to do that will be put in place.

The sad part of the story is that the magazine is discontinued. But for the Marketing effect for Mandriva that does not matter, since this issue is distributed. Up and away to the next front page Mandriva..

Wow. Debating on mentioning this to Linux Mag and a couple others... this is great, and high time. :)

That is a start, but still barking at the wrong tree. Makes no sense to preach at choir.

They need to place it on IT type magazines, with exposure to the enthusiast and average users. Some for example... and I making some names up, IT Quaterly, Professional Computing, Popular Science/Mechanics, and so on... If money flows even more, main stream magazines with free trial disks, Bus Stops and Bus Signs, with more money finally TV. You can even set up a Kiosk in any park and give some free demonstrations to the passing public or better yet, put some kind of Audio/Visual show with the Mandriva OS and the FOSS software.

People are more interest on what can I do with your OS.

Yes its only a start. But I wonder who is calling the shots these days. Powerpack subscribers do not know whom to contact! That is an important part of Marketing too. I guess they still are consolidating. A Google add on the Microsoft site, could make a major difference too
