Did Linux miss the opportunity?

Re: Did Linux miss the opportunity?
Yes I think the potential bit is good. I was not going to say it's been done.
I think you are a Linux philosopher there. So your next nick could be Sokrates or Platon or maybe Archemenix?
The ultimate examples for thinking out of the box.

Re: Did Linux miss the opportunity?
Well, yeah, maybe. I am not kidding when I say I love my Linux, and just gave perfect examples of why. It's not just because "I r kan run a desktop", for sure. It's because of the ultimate power it has, that nothing else does. I'm very passionate about it.
Edit: Just found the article you referenced tweeted, and had quite a strong reaction:

Re: Did Linux miss the opportunity?
Okay, am wondering how many agree with this:
IMHO, yes, we are generally (but not all) against DRM. However, I'm finding too many alternatives to DRM, so really don't think that in itself keeps people from Linux. I'm gonna give them a thumbs down for that - even Windows users hate DRM.
"DRM is not popular with the open-source crowd," says Whatcott, lamenting that the open-source community at large remains so steadfastly opposed to digital rights management technologies. Without those systems, commercial content providers have no incentive to embrace Linux. And Whatcott points out that even if the open-source community were willing to go along, the DRM arena is dominated by "deep, deep patent pools," making a free, open-source alternative unlikely anyway.

Re: Did Linux miss the opportunity?
I am fine with it, as long as my hardware is not tampered with. Also I forbid anyone to spy on me so Sony root kits are out too.
The software in question may have functions to take care of the interest of the DR owner. It can stop working or something similar.
But if it starts to shut down my PC or stuff like that then they will see one pissed Viking fore sure. They will undoubtedly have some 400 pages of conditions that you have "accepted" to smear in your face.
But those kind of tricks are immoral IMHO and not welcome. But I do wish the Artists and Programmers and whoever every success! And I hope they will find this platform interesting.
Commercial CAD software is slowly coming and I think Linux must be perfect for it. So yes I would gladly pay them for it. Book keeping is a market in every country of the world and yet Linux has not one application to show that meets the demands. I know for a fact that companies are sitting ready to throw money at Linux for this. Because the one thing you do not need in that system is a virus.
And Windows is prone to having them.

Agreed to that, 100%.
