# ADDING OTHER CONFIGURATION HERE WILL HAVE NO EFFECT ON YOUR SYSTEM.

I would think not based on that.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Doesn't it say the same thing though in Arch's /etc/inittab? Wait. I best check. Ah, no it doesn't. Dang. :(

Okay. I pulled up Arch's /etc/gdm/custom.conf file:

Code: Select all

# cat /media/b8036618-3036-4ec9-b50c-546fcf082db3/etc/gdm/custom.conf

[daemon]
timedloginenable=False
automaticlogin=None
automaticloginenable=False
timedlogindelay=30
greeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmgreeter
timedlogin=None

TimedLoginEnable=true

TimedLogin=dedanna

TimedLoginDelay=10

Greeter=/usr/lib/gdm/gdmgreeter

[gui]

[chooser]

[servers]

[debug]

[greeter]
defaultwelcome=false
welcome=Arch Linux
graphicaltheme=Arch_Family
graphicalthemes=happygnome/:circles
graphicalthemerand=true
defaultface=/usr/share/pixmaps/faces/butterfly.png

Browser=true

GraphicalTheme=happygnome-list

GraphicalThemes=happygnome-list

GraphicalThemeRand=true

DefaultWelcome=false

Welcome=Arch Linux 2010 or die!

[security]
allowroot=true
retrydelay=3

RetryDelay=2

AllowRoot=true

[xdmcp]

Hhmmm. Wondering if that would work on Fedora, with a couple of modifications, and if it would make gdm be the default login manager.

Nope, I had forgotten:

Code: Select all

# yum install system-switch-displaymanager-gnome switchdesk-gui

That's what it was. Let's hope it works still. They're F12 packages in the repos.

Now I can edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf, but first have to see what all themes are installed. Have to figure out where to look for what they are.

http://twitter.com/dedanna1029/status/24041009887

I'm trying to construct it from Arch's, and can't figure what to put for this line:

Code: Select all

graphicaltheme=Arch_Family

(Obviously won't be Arch_Family)

Edit: The themes are in /usr/share/gdm/themes but it doesn't matter - they only have the simple greeter for GDM, so they all come out looking the same anyway. :P

There's no reason for this.

Okay well, Fedora's hosed again. Stalls right after "Starting atd" on boot. So no, I'm not going to update Arch until I have Fedora fixed - that way I know I can get into *something*... :x :f :mandriva:

Sorry, but I really think my xorg.conf is good:

Well, thinking it might have something to do with the GDM playing around I had done previously, I reset /etc/gdm/custom.conf back to its original state, then that turned out not to be it. Check this out. X is failing to start:

Code: Select all

# cat /media/f8f920a9-3781-42af-ab46-208b8e5fb908/var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE

I've tried everything I can think of, including system-config-display in tty, to no avail. I've reset xorg.conf I don't know how many times, tried the old xorg.conf that I had before this update, just don't know what else to do.

I need Joste's stick to bash this thing in for these things. Humph.

The drivers did not install during last update because the old Nvidia drivers were in use - would be my guess.
Try to remove the nvidia drivers completely and the install them again.

I tried that. Now I get a bunch of python errors and core/stack dumps. Sorry meant to mention that - I did in the Fedora thread.
