Well, I'm working okay now with the nvidia with the old xorg.conf file... :?:

Edit: Wait, I best double-check what version of Xorg I'm on:

Beginning to get REAL tired of this. The block has been gone down before, and caused He!! on this thing. They really need to get it together with updates already. Same mistake! TWICE!

No, I'm not rebooting. I'm just not. I won't get back in if I do.

Full pastebin of yum update here.

It's still better than Mandriva. - I was tired of them and Cooker both seemed like every five mins LOL

Oh yeah, rebooted just fine.

There's also updates for Arch - will be posting them when done.

Is it possible to have a different wallpaper for each desktop in Fedora? If so, how?

Also, it's still stuck on the default kdm login, and I can't find where to change to gdm, or where to modify the theme for it, either. Where do I go to do this? I know that back in F10 (I think it was), they removed the ability to change the default login screen for some reason or another, but I thought they had put it back in a later release. I have gdm, gdm-themes, gdm-more-themes installed, I just can't figure out how to use them in Fedora 13. Can I do it the same way as in Arch, putting gdm in /etc/inittab or /etc/rc.conf?

Thanks!

Hmm I'll have a look in my VB (Must finish a zillion updates there first). Putting gdm in inittab will not work in Fedora :!: Looking.....
I have the gdm login screen (but I have not installed kdm)--- still looking
And it looks like you are out of luck:
This has been asked *many* times. The new GDM that Fedora uses cannot use the old gdm themes. You can change the background by editing XML files, but that's it.

May I recomend Arch?

Yeah, that was back in F10 - It was my understanding they put the ability back since. Never found out how though.

I'm thinking someone had told me - trying to remember who now. It was around the time that F12 came out I think. I'm thinking it may have been either Paul W. Frields or Dave Jones? Could be someone else? I'm tweeting them now to find out what the score is, anyway, with GDM.

Code: Select all

$ cat /etc/inittab
# inittab is only used by upstart for the default runlevel.
#
# ADDING OTHER CONFIGURATION HERE WILL HAVE NO EFFECT ON YOUR SYSTEM.
#
# System initialization is started by /etc/init/rcS.conf
#
# Individual runlevels are started by /etc/init/rc.conf
#
# Ctrl-Alt-Delete is handled by /etc/init/control-alt-delete.conf
#
# Terminal gettys are handled by /etc/init/tty.conf and /etc/init/serial.conf,
# with configuration in /etc/sysconfig/init.
#
# For information on how to write upstart event handlers, or how
# upstart works, see init(5), init(8), and initctl(8).
#
# Default runlevel. The runlevels used are:
#   0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
#   1 - Single user mode
#   2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
#   3 - Full multiuser mode
#   4 - unused
#   5 - X11
#   6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)

This is Fedora's /etc/inittab. Could I not change #4 there to GDM, and uncomment it?

I got the tip to set up gdm in /etc/gdm - there are a bunch of files & folders within it. /etc/gdm/custom.conf is:

Code: Select all

$ cat /etc/gdm/custom.conf
# GDM configuration storage

[daemon]

[security]

[xdmcp]

[greeter]

[chooser]

[debug]

I'd have no clue what to put where there. There's also no /etc/rc.conf in Fedora, so I can't even put gdm in that. I'm also finding every graphical tool in the book for Fedora except for the "Login Window". Maybe I was told wrong and they didn't change that back. Silly really. Even Arch has gdm2setup for those who want to use the login manager for current Gnome (although I use the old one for it, which it also has in yaourt; Fedora's got neither).
