Arch Linux GO! :)

Postby viking60 » 30 May 2010, 12:11

I have a disappointing freeze bug in Arch right now.
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

What is it so I can be on the lookout please? Haven't come across one yet.

I think it is my setup. It all works but it is not correct yet according to:

Code: Select all

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Still investigating I will get back to you...

In fact I'm mulling over in my mind if there's a way to get amarok1 on here in Arch... used to be able to do it by installing previously-version repos and going for it... postgresql's already installed.

Well amarok1 is in aur, amarokfs is in aur (You will need yaourt for that). musicmood is in aur as is pacpl-amarok I told you to install yaourt:)
After you have installed it you just do a

Code: Select all

yaourt amarok
and amarok1 will be no 14 in the list.
Pick it, and do the obvious "Y" and "N" stuff.

And my freezebug behaves a lot like this:

Nice. Thanks. I still have intentions of doing the yaourt, just haven't had time - been very busy, as evidenced by this being my first login in some 10-12 hrs here (or more?). I will do it, though.

Came to find out from Paul Frields that Red Hat got into it about XMMS and mp3s, which is why the restriction. He did tell me of a workaround on my Facebook, so I took that option, but did it under protest. I told him in response that I thought if that was done initially in 2000-2001, then it's more than high time that "feature" of XMMS came off. The workaround is to install xmms-mp3 from rpmfusion.

Anyway, I'm off 'n running again. Time to go back to work tomorrow. Take care.

Tell me if you have a package (or any set of packages) called abrt-gui installed, or abrt please? Also if it happens only on mouse click, and not when you use keyboard shortcuts. Again, I haven't had Arch/Gnome freeze on me yet, but I have a hunch, and would like to rule it out. Thanks.

Okay, didn't know for sure if it did for Arch or not. What about the rest?

ARCH

Postby viking60 » 01 Jun 2010, 20:49

It is more or less exactly as described here:

Is it only on mouse click, and not when using keyboard shortcuts? Also, if you remove dri2 from Xorg.conf and reboot, does that help?

Arch linux installation

Postby viking60 » 02 Jun 2010, 12:46

I have tweaked so much now that neither Keyboard nor mouse is working. I have full control via ssh so it works perfectly fine as a server. Getting close to a full reinstall here, but I will play around some more with Xorg
