Looks Cool :s
Image
I only updated Cooker. I will install the entire Enchilada later to see if you have got that wallpaper right on a fresh install...
And what is the story on MCC/Drakconf?

Unsolved after the update:
Metapackage task-gnome-minimal:

Code: Select all

Sorry, the following packages cannot be selected:

- gnome-control-center-3.6.3-1-mdv2013.0.x86_64 (due to unsatisfied gnome-settings-daemon[>= 2.21.5])
- task-gnome-minimal-2012-4-mdv2013.0.noarch

task-gnome fails after accepting the long list of dependencies:

Code: Select all

Sorry, the following packages cannot be selected:

- gdm-3.6.2-3-mdv2013.0.x86_64 (due to unsatisfied gnome-settings-daemon)
- task-gnome-2012-4-mdv2013.0.noarch

Looks like you need to torture the gnome-settings-daemon guys :berserk2

KDE seems to continue to work like a charm.

Installation:
Very intrusive fonts (Nothing wrong - just BIG) on the welcome screen - but I will easily accept that if it is Game related :-D
Picking Norwegian and playing the game now... :B Over 1600 points so far...
Image
Almost finsished and then we get an error that we did not have in the Alpha:

Code: Select all

ERROR: 'script' failed for libreoffice-common-4.0.1-1-mdv2013.0x86_64
ERROR: 'script' failed for grub2-2.00-16-mdv2013.0x86_6

But since I have the option of clicking OK - that is what I do :-D and we go on with setting root password and creating user....
Image
I do not get a network connection this time either - but it might be related to that I use DNScrypt :confused Again; we can fix that later.
Installing boot loader and time to reboot....
systemd fails to load kernel modules as it does everywhere - this is not Mandriva related and it has no negative effect....
After that I have several pages of networkmanager infos and warnings while it tries to connect to my network...
still booting....
and
still booting while

Code: Select all

NetworkManager[3503 <info> ] (enp0s0) Stage 4 of 5 (IPv4 Configure Timeout) scheduled...

is doing its thing :confused
Looks like NM is working hard to get my network up so I am
....
still booting....

Something is happening I got a black screen -dunno if that is a screensaver kicking in.....
Hitting enter as one does on these occasions and there we are at the CLI login....
So I log in and write

Code: Select all

startx

And I do not seem to have the right permissions for X

Code: Select all

xauth: file /home/thomas/.serverauth.5060 does not exist
xauth: file /home/thomas/.Xauthority does not exist

Finally the connection to the X-server is refused and NetworkManager tries to do its very long 5 step connection thing again...
So far this is way more bumpy than the Alpha

Breaking it off and loging in as root before I do another:

Code: Select all

startx
....
And the connection to the xserver is refused again and NM starts its one million connection attempts...

Are you guys sure you did not switch the Alpha and the Beta here? The alpha did work - the Beta does not :berserkf

Ah I got it - this is an April fools joke :naughty:
Add one angry penguin and make it 13...

The x issues are completely new to me, when installing under vmware it works just fine for me, but I think maybe there's some packages remaining that's not been fixed for latest X yet (I ran into the same for vmware driver myself)..

I'll take a look at it and fix before making first beta official tomorrow. :)

I'll try investigate the networkmanager issues as well.

:s Good! As long as I can get Internet I will be able to go on. I have tried to systemctl enable dhcpcd + a lot of other stuff but I am not getting far enough.
Rescue is not an option either it seems.

Regarding mcc the command did not work in CLI...And I could not find it in the menus - so it was gone - as was drakconf...
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2541#p15034
mcc is in /usr/share but not in /usr/bin (was the case in the Alpha)

so the system came without drakconf preinstalled?

btw, feedback/bug reports would make it easier for us to follow and be able to address if done on cooker list, ie. not just me(;).

any feedback on artwork would be appriciated btw. :o)

Ie. notice new sound theme, ie. startup & shutdown sound, haven't received any feedback from anyone yet (even though it was included in alpha2 already, but improved for beta).

for background, does it look good 'nuff? :o)

I firmly believe we need to make a clear attempt at branding ourself with a different theme of artwork than all the other generic ones used by everyone else which might look good, but extremely boring..

Does the "LINUX" spelled with penguin characters look good, or to cheezy? And does anyone find them familiar maybe perhaps..? ;)

Ie. look at the mageia 2 background, it's extremely boring, while it also turned out to have been ripped off from the original author as well.. ;p

okey okey, i logged me in.. thss Per, you have indebted ! *giggle*

1. the Prompt-Login Loginwall and the Ascii-Picture..-> hach.. at home again :) Very nice !
2. The Pinguins.. looks cool !
3. The installer : it's cool, but if you create a live-CD + a Installerlink who can start the
installer and the installer it is inside of a Window who can move around want be better :)
like i have wrote you, the EDE as Live-WM-Surface, this have no dependencies to QT and GTK
and if broken the installer, so can restart it again or can open a Xterm and can try to work and repear
something or can look who it is the bug in the installer, if he maybe starts into xterm and see the messages :)

I think a i586 livesystem with an Installer who install it from diffrent folders
/cdrom/System+extra folders with rpm's as DVD
/cdrom/i586
/cdrom/x86_64

and in the installer maybe a possibility to installing from a special ftp +/- Login/passwd or from a Mirrorlist-ftp/http

4. The Bosskey.. eehh *lol* funny !

5. the Game, jey, very nice it is like a bit other .. lol, i had play at first, but then i whant see the packes who be installed..
so it is the Game on the 2.nd rang on me.. but it's a nice attension for the User :) As User, i like it :)
Maybe diffrent buttons with diffrent lil games, like invasion , digger and you game and so on..
if press the button, hides the other buttons and start the game , on the side maybe a other button [other Game]

First Systemstart in Virtualbox (eehh sorry, i need a clean running system befor i se it on real hardware ;) )
It's realy to big resolution and.. eehh were can i configuration the grub2 like "vga=791" and so ...
it's some a bit other :)

The Drakconf.. thought to myself that this was a provided *lol* Who gives a Mandrake out without a Drakconf *lol*
the drakconf-icons was on it :) KDE-Systemsettings-Distro-configurations be nice tools,
but.. it's so KDE-dependent .. baehh ... MDV btw OMDV it's a RPM-Based with Controlcenter..
otherwise want be not OMDV i think ;)
Per, if you want make a new Iso, do it, i have no problems with 1001 installs ;)
Apropo, check out the other funktion on the Bootmenu of the Iso.... but if you make a livesystem
with a/the Installer as addon-Programm ... by side of Partitions and other Programs or something tools
so we need only One iso with 2 Achitectures who can be installed 4 Gig it's a big space for Installing-rpm's..
and maybe a program who move the livesystem and the rest of it on a usb-stick for
booting usb-only Systems .. as suggestion :)
Maybe can select the User per Checkbox which System he want install who be fount on the ISO
and be possibility to install, a exemple :
[X] Extended User Install :tux5: ?
[_spoiler_]
[X] i586 Mandriva (Forund directory on medium)
[_] x86_46 Mandriva (Forund directory on medium) [Hardware Found]
[_] Online from FTP with Login
[_] Online from a spezial FTP as anonymous
[_] Online from the MirrorList > You'r Land [____Frace_______]^] #pulldown [_] Cooker ?
[_/spoiler_]

so can decide the user which install-way he want use, off or online with a grafical installer ..
from a Cooker or from stabile ftp :)

and At last, i have install the Standartinstall who was without taste the Checkboxes..
Was install so olala.. diffrent rpm's was not includes who get a errormessages, but, so far, goes furter
to the Rootpasswd, Useraddon and so far and the Configurations-screen.

If you use the Virtualbox, can you see the hardest Errors by self..
and the widh and hight of the promptscreen.. easy to big..
i think 1024x786 it s for all okey so far on prompt ...

i mus go to get applying for a job on a factory.. like every Monday.. okey, was ester :)

best regards
Blacky

Hi!

For the live installer issues you mention, the installer now comes with a complete busybox environment together with several other tools also provided with it, all built against uClibc, resulting in a quite minimal size, so I think for debugging of installer, it should be less of a problem for people to do now without it even being a live installer.

Notice this by switching to one of the console terminals, you'll find the ucDrakx environment that you can play around and see for yourself about everything that's actually provided with it.

PS: it would still be a lot better for these discussions to take place on cooker list, as the list activity has faded so much over the last year, that it would also help generate and stimulate more activity on the list and community participation and all. :)

Sooo, I'd be *very* greatful if you all could make use of cooker for reports and feedback on these things :)

Rolf is our pro for stuff like that. He actually does read Mailing lists and does not seem to mind to get a ton of mails. Mortals like me cannot compete with that...
Besides we have our Oracle Jkerr who will always know and inform us about the latest...
I dislike automated mails - and I do not care that Linus Torvalds likes them :snooty: (I get the spam feeling)
Image

The Linux logo looks good (I did not realize that is made of Penguins).
And as I have told you before if you can get a pro to brush up this wallpaper you can use it.
I have all the rights and it is the view from my veranda. (It does work as a WP).

I will comment further on the artwork as soon as I get it up and running again.

And where are my manners:
