Apple to present iPhone5 in two days

The big news is that Apple will present iPhone5 on the 12th of September. There will be opportunity to sleep in front of Apple stores all over the world.

I rather have a Galaxy; at least I can walk to the store and get one comfortably and civilized.

Oh yes he was the master of marketing. In terms of results his comeback at Apple is more impressive than Bill Gates starting and building Microsoft. Today iPhone is bigger than Microsoft (Not Apple - only the iPhone department). Apple is a huge money machine and has to get used to the big brother role. What I have a problem with is this urge to control the content on their gadgets (No nudity etc) - how on earth can a serious newspaper publish its stuff on an Apple app when their editor can be overridden by Apple?

And then there is this patented remote controlling of your camera based on location (Thank God for that patent - so that others cannot copy that particularly stupid idea). The true Genius lies in the understanding of the human nature:

Apple has been selling a successful lifestyle more than anything else. For years you could see nothing but Apple laps in Hollywood movies. This "product placement" has been a strategy for years and helped build the link between Apple and the particularly good looking and successful.
Every id.... especially those with confidence or peacock problems will of course be a sucker for Apple products after that. Combined with some good design - it just sky rocketed.

I am not sure it will last, since Apple seems to be more dependent on "fashion" than, say Microsoft......

The computers are based on Unix/BSD which seems to be a solid foundation but it has become a very remote relative to Linux since it is very closed. This frustrates me every time a try a OS X product. But that is probably just fine for the average Apple user - he wants to use it - not to fix it - as Jobs has stated on several occasions.

Anyway iPhone5 is out now. There are no surprises an no WoW factors but a bigger screen, improved camera, aluminum backside to avoid breakage.
It does not have wireless charging (rumors had mention it). It works and it looks good and it is slimmer.
Pretty much what was expected - and that is unusual in Apple terms. They always seem to have a "by the way" statement to blow their audience away and that does create a huge hype - not so this time.
Also there is a new dock and adapter so the Apple people will have to buy new cables and adapters too so it will in fact be somewhat more expensive to upgrade from iPhone4 than it looks at first sight. Many Apple people dislike that....
Still the iPhone5 is good enough and will probably be a huge success.

GF's sister has iPhone4, I think, and the latest excitement with that is she can call her sister on an iPhone in Vietnam for free! GF has to buy minutes with a local Vietnamese retailer at a rate that is still competitive but not free. IDK if there is a similar app that can be installed to GF's Evo 4G and will look into that, by and by. We speculate, however, that Apple is subsidizing this as one aspect of the marketing "genius". (In quotes as IMO genius can be a good thing but, in this case, the results are not so good for me, so maybe it's more an evil genius.)

Because of how Jobs closed down and exploits the free spirit of OSS and, making it worse, how this empire so aggressively limits choice to only spending more money on this enterprise, Apple is not for me.

No and it is easy to forget in this hype that Android phones are the market leaders not the iOS (iPhones). So if the choice of the consumers do count, then Samsung would be a better alternative.
Apple has inherited the "to big for this world" syndrome from Microsoft: At some point in time they seemed to think that anything successful was a Microsoft property by definition, the aggressive Apple attacks against Samsung have the same smell.

If the car industry should act in the same way then Mercedes VW and BMW would probably still be fighting Mazda Toyota and Honda in court.
Those Japanese did run around all over Europe in the 60/70's with Cameras taking pictures of everything - and copying it.
Mercedes BMW and VW were confident enough to compete with better products, and when they were beaten once in a while, they toke the signal and made it better the next time and so on.

Today the consumers are happy to have the choice and both German and Japanese cars are good. Gotlieb Daimler did invent the high speed petrol engine that is quite important in a car

Imaging if Daimler Benz would use that to shut everyone else out?

Those Japanese did run around all over Europe in the 60/70's with Cameras taking pictures of everything - and copying it.

In the early '90's, my landlord in Oregon sold me one of these, in yellow. He told me a serviceman had brought it from Canada. While I owned it, Datsun aired a commercial about "the first personal truck!" with a fully restored red one of these spinning slowly in the middle of the screen. There were "60 HP" emblems on the front fenders and that was generated by a 1200cc L4 that, come to find out, was an almost direct copy of MG's 4-cylinder engine of that time. Many parts were interchangeable. Lady at the junk yard told me stories of farmers driving these around overloaded with wheat and having to replace rear ends often. I went through 3 of them. (5.13:1 gear ratio ) Datsun rated it for 1-ton cargo, which was a bit optimistic. I had two more leafs put in each rear spring, built a shell with 3 doors, and typically hauled 3/4 ton of tools and hardware, before stacking materials on the rack. In time, I grew impatient with "60 HP" and wound up putting a Frankenstein NAPZ-20 lower end with L20B head and '79 200SX 5-speed in the miniature engine compartment. Even loaded down with 3/4 ton, the 5.13:1 gears, 10.1:1 compression ratio, 5-speed and my lead foot made it a well-known speedster in McMinnville, OR.

Ha yes good old Datsun (Nissan) they copied in the US too. Regarding your driving Apple has just the App for it:

I did not know they were spying on drivers license plates too. Now everybody can be the Police and turn you in; the police will get a copy of every thing sent - like the FBI did - and your insurance company will get a copy too. It is enough that your neighbor hates you and you are screwed. Stay away from Apple - buy a Samsung! I have no illusions about Googles privacy policy but this sucks big time. It does not matter if you have a smartphone or not; you are the victim of other peoples moods anyway, while you are dynamically driving your Datsun.

Is also the catch phrase for the Dept of Homeland Security.

Is going to be such a mess!

People will be desperate for cash and false accusations for a small reward will be rampant.

As usual the iPhones are sold out now so people have to wait to get one. This is a part of Apples strategy so their popular products mostly always are sold out; it adds to the extra hype and the free articles in the press.
Apple never have enough products - it makes you want them more....

Or Apple are the worst planers in the world with absolutely no clue about their market.....

What people are buying is bragging rights; that is so superfluous.

If I want one; I just wait. I promise that will get one within the next few months.
