The road to hell...

Postby viking60 » 03 Mar 2013, 11:37

The road to hell is paved with golden intentions.
And Apple has this moral intention of keeping dubious stuff away from their products. So if you use the icloud to send mails then they will control your mails and simply remove the ones that do not meet the standard.
(They are deleted -not sent to trash).
So if the mail contains barley legal teenager then it will simply disappear so this text will not pass the Apple censorship:
My friend's son is already allowed to drive his high-powered car. It's ridiculous. He's a barely legal teenage driver? What on earth is John thinking.

But this will pass:
My friend's son is already allowed to drive his high-powered car. It's ridiculous. He's barely a legal teenage driver? What on earth is John thinking.

So changing "barely legal" to «barely a legal made the mail pass through.

It shows how hopeless the project of censorship is - to control it you need to invade peoples privacy big time. Apple might be willing to go there - but I doubt if their customers will; once they understand what is happening.

The world is full of people who want to read our mails and censor the content. In the good old days when you sent a letter - people would go to jail for opening it and reading it (In the US - not in the Soviet Union).

Why should your privacy be invaded simply because you send the same information electronically?

And yes! Porn sites that are marketing themselves with the abuse of "almost children" are disgusting. But to what extent should those idiots be used to reduce the freedom of speech + a lot of other freedoms, for the entire world population?

Shooting sparrows with canons is never a good idea.
As we clearly can see here; Apple has a problem with the aiming.
But if you use Apple products you have accepted it:
You acknowledge that Apple is not responsible or liable in any way for any Content provided by others and has no duty to pre-screen such Content. However, Apple reserves the right at all times to determine whether Content is appropriate and in compliance with this Agreement, and may pre-screen, move, refuse, modify and/or remove Content at any time, without prior notice and in its sole discretion, if such Content is found to be in violation of this Agreement or is otherwise objectionable
