Guys, we're not so busy here that we can't just sit back and talk. IMO we don't need to quote every doggone thing we're replying to. All one needs to do is mention the subject matter that they're replying to. This is not a quotathon. It is not a quote fest. Quotes are for if you're quoting something from an outside site, or some celeb, or for when you have a specific reason to quote - in many cases, there is no reason.
http://www.unc.edu/depts/wcweb/handouts/quotations.html - purpose of quoting, and when it's properly used. Please use them wisely, rather than for the obvious, which is dumb, takes up page space, and eventually becomes unreadable anyway.
Quote, quote, quote. Argh! Please!

Let me give you just a slight example of what happens when quote fests are run with:
Now, if the forum had let me like most forums do, I could have gone MUCH further with this and proven the real point: Who, in the end, said what to begin with? I can't read it to tell!
There is @<SoAndSo> that one can use, or one can just say "To <username>", or any number of things, or, do the real winning thing, and just reply!
dummy#1 who didn't need to quote anyway wrote:blah blah blah blah blah blah original pointdummy#2 who was silly enough to quote dummy #1 wrote:blah blah blah blah blahdummy#3 who was silly enough to quote dummy #1 and dummy #2 wrote:blah blah blah blah blah totally unnecessary

Yes! and there is a system limitation so you may embed only 3 quotes within each other. When exceeded the posting will fail. So it is in fact impossible to quote your post above,

I think we need to pull that back to one.
There's no excuse for any more than that anyway.
Thanks for your support on this btw.

I would also like to add, that I myself think that code belongs in:
Not in:
Do you concur, boss?
Very small example of unnecessary quoting.
Small example of code in quotes.
Using code in code boxes is much neater, IMO.
Thanks.

Re: Quote, quote, quote. Argh! Please!
I think the quote feature has been misused for a long time. Apparently and you can blame me for it, when someone replies on a forum and place few things on one post or it comes lengthy most people uses the Quote feature as a vehicle of Question and Reply so the reply is not lost somewhere on previous posts. So the Quote part is not really a quote is more of a specific reply to someones post.
It could be nice if instead of Quotes, is turn into a Reply feature.
Usually when a post is a single liner is much easier to reply, you are replying or commenting on a previous post somewhere on the thread without the need to search or re-read on it. Another is an insurance that means, this is what you said on your own words vs retyping and misinterpreting the point.
So that quotes are used too way too often? As quote yes.
The feature is used with other intentions? Yes and way often.
