.xsession-errors question

Postby dedanna1029 » 24 Nov 2010, 06:08

Anyone ever seen this in ~/.xsession-errors? If so, any clue what causes it?

Thanks.

Wow! that is quite some list. I have never seen it before.
Here is the only line I have there and that must be old because I know line 34 works in xinitrc:

Code: Select all

/home/thomas/.xinitrc: line 34: exec: gnome: not found

It is the modification that makes auto login work in slim.

I think you are ready to make a backup of your "home" and make a reinstall. :wall:

A reinstall, or should I try resetting /home first?

Over the years I've seen all sorts of mysterious "errors" reported in xsession-errors. My practice is to ignore them all, unless I experience a problem for which they may be relevant. It's been years since I had a problem that made me look at that file.

Well, it had been here too, but I was checking for any hint on my sound card failing on boot (but loading once I'm in the desktop) - I get an error on boot but it doesn't show anything in dmesg, and happens right when I'm about to hit up the login screen.

You obviously are at a point were it seems easier to make a controlled install from scratch. Finding out exactly what you have done and over viewing the implications of that, seems far more problematic to me. So I would just go back to scratch and reinstall. Make sure it is not your hardware with the Live CD first though.

Yeah, I'm beginning to suspect an #epicmobofail myself - there are too many things not working right.

Monitor blanking and not wanting to resume
Sound card fail on boot (but I *may* know what that is - I'm thinking it's lm_sensors - I saw something about ICH4 or IC4 or something and "no such file or directory" when I rebooted this time)
Keyboard gives me grief sometimes - just did a bit ago - #keyboardfailerroratpost until I reseated it
Front USB port being out
And, my inet went down just a bit ago #eth0 fail - had to reseat all of the cables to my modem at both ends to get it to come back up.

Something's definitely not right at all, and it's got me really really worried.

Yeah come to think of it; you did mention Wikileaks quite a lot, so you are a candidate! You will have to battle it out with dubi :D
