How-to disconnect mtp device in Windows?

Postby dedanna1029 » 29 Jul 2010, 20:07

How do I disconnect an MTP device (mp3 player) in Windows? It's not listing itself in "Safely Remove Hardware", yet Windows Media Player is seeing it and listing it as a device (however it did say "I can disconnect it" if I want to. How helpful. Not.), and so is Windows Explorer. It's much easier to do this in Linux, but I'm not home right now and have to take what I can get. This is in Vista.

Thanks.

Just remove it 8-)
Nothing bad will happen. It will be mounted again the next time.
The proper way is to use the eject command in explorer, (if it does not work remove)
Update could help, the service packs "should" fix it.

Next question. In Windows Media Player Sync, I had it copy over a few of the files from the device. Where does it copy them to?

Proud to be Microsoft Windows Vista illerate now. :)

Thanks.

for the most part you can remove a usb device without using safe disconnect. as long as your computer is not currently writing to the device
the safe removal command is merely a shutdown sequence for that device that will suspend any current write operations
