"Rumor has it" that Windows 9 will come with virtual desktops. Linux and OSX have had them for years. This is one of the functions that truly made me switch to Linux some years ago.
These rumors are often well orchestrated marketing campaigns from Microsoft.
Windows has had this option with Virtualwin but chances are that implementing it in the OS will increase the functionality.
Many would say that Windows 8 is in need of loots of improvement - this would be one.

I have no clue how "virtual desktops" is supposed to work when microsoft is trying to push people towards that metro "tiled interface" crap. They must be putting crack in the vending machines over there.
