Good find there dedanna!
I think we can regard this as solved - sort of - since the KDE upgrade will fix it, eventually.
Finding a workaround is not worth the effort :snooty:
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Well, it would be worth the fix here, and I've commented on that fact in the bug. I think on the bug, I'm going to go ahead and ask for a backport on the fix - too many distros are not using KDE 4.9.3. Why they want everyone to wait for that release, is beyond me. Most are on earlier versions.

Thanks, btw.

Arch is on 4.10 so I guess it will not be to long for other distros to reach 4.9.3

I'm hoping not. There were a LOT of KDE updates last night late... still keeping it to 4.8.5.

When I start a Gnome-terminal in KDE then the default is actually ~/Documents (or Dokumenter in this case). You are hereby declared not guilty - (and I will apologize for thinking that you had been smoking your socks :-D )

That is not set by you it must be a bug +1

<snip>

Edit:
Setting another path in the gnome-terminal settings is not possible and the xterm pops up with the correct home path - and since this also affects guake (as you state - I have not tested it) it is probably KDE (not Gnome) related - urxvt also pops with the correct path :confused

Makes me wonder what guake and gnome-terminal have in common...
And this seems to be an inherited weakness since the behavior is exactly the same in Mandriva 2010 the Guake terminal pops up with Documents as default :confused Maybe it is a feature?
A feature that Arch does not have.....

Arch has also had the manpower to fine-tune these things to cater to those who run their distro. It's not something the KDE devs have done. It's something the Arch devs have done (*applauds).

Keep in mind, it is when these things are run in KDE only, that this happens. If you go back to Gnome, you'll find this not happening any more.

What do those two have in common? Code. They are both gtk-based (or Gnome based, just about the same thing, code-wise), but they have to mind KDE rules. If the KDE rules say "go to the Documents folder on open", then that's what will happen.

I have found a workaround for when I'm in KDE (rarely these days due to several things, not the least of which is fairly frequent desktop freezes), that being to edit the executable in the KDE kicker. Right-click the kicker, go to "Edit Applications" (or whatever it is), and in the dialog for the executable, make the Working path be "/home/youruser". The problem with this, is that you then can only use that launcher to load it with, for it to load correctly to the /home folder.

I don't know what update did it (if any), it didn't do this in Mageia 3 at f irst, but now in Guake, it goes to /home/myuser/.kde4/Autostart when I load a new tab or terminal in Guake. KDE 4.10.2.

This is starting to smell really bad.
