Also, when logging out from the right-click menu, I say YES to the Do you really want to? dialog and get an error box on black screen with a red circle icon like

Yeah I have noticed that last one it is the newly installed gdm that has fubared it. So I changed the parameter in the ~/.dmrc file from
Session=gnome to Session=openbox.
(I am unsure if that autogenerate system will take it though and I alreaddy regret having added gdm).
And this keyboard thing is annoying; do you not have a clear option F2 to set your keyboard on the first screen - and that does not work? On the very same screen there is the F3 change resolution option - but the choices could be somewhat limited.
I will try again to make English the default keyboard - but it should be possible to pick and choose already....
And yes that yast stuff should not be in the menu - There is not enough bloat provided to use it, You must use zypper to install and upgrade.
A full upgrade of an installed system would be
zypper is the CLI version of yast.
I decided to drop gdm again and let the users log in with user user. Adding gdm realy FUBARED the build. I have made all the commands autostart except the background so you need only to do a
or just start nitrogen from the menu and navigate to the path under preferences and set the backround.
The rest should work out of the box now
I have double checked English keyboard - so hopefully it works now (but I am suspicious of the build system there
).
I have also set Networkmanager to handle the internet connections I dunno if that is good or bad yet....
Any way the link is here and you can testdrive the LiveCD there even if the Aero snap is not working in testdrive.
It should be ok to check out the keyboard in it.

Re: Building your own Linux distro
I am here, again. Yes, F2 has a Keyboard button way over on the right, after all the languages, so it is a bit not what I am used to seeing. That said, English is pre selected but I press Enter to be sure. That takes me back to the boot screen and I hit F2, go to Keyboard, and US keyboard is pre selected in there so I press Enter. In F3, I choose my 1280x960 and let er rip. Boot time is pretty quick for a CD, so that is good.
I check my keybindings and.............

There must be some CL way to change the keyboard but I donæt know it, obviously.
Also, I notice my active WAN port has been switched from eth1 to eth0. When I did dhclient eth1, I saw it was timing out so I killed it. Then, ifconfig showed I already had a lease on eth0, so that happened by itself, somehow. The first boot, I had no internet when I opened Chromium, so I did the dhclient but this time it was unnecessary.
To be clear, last time, when I called yast from CL, it worked fine in ncurses mode to install gimp, just so long as it wasnæt being blocked by the first, hung instance called from the menu.
When I(See, I am becoming Norski. That was your evil plan all along, wasn't it?
)
I get
so this is a mystery.
I am impressed with this susestudio work. I think it must be difficult to make a working live CD and you have done it!
Now, I will do init 6 to get back to more familiar surroundings. Could it be you uploaded some of your personal profile that is setting the keyboard to Norwegian§!"#¤%&/()=??

Re: Building your own Linux distro
Thanks
Actually what you have got there is quite fubared by gdm so the latest version 0.0.35 lets you log in again with user user but all the rest minus background does now autostart (and logout and shutdown works)!
I actually feel that it is a true liveCD now too. I must check out how the networkl connections are though. I have altered the "auto detect DHCP" to let "Networkmanager set up"...
And now I am struggling with this damn US keyboard

Ok version 0.0.42 is all english keyboard (well it sure is not Norwegian
) Lots of tools added and most of the eye-candy is auto-started.
It works here except for the Norwegian keyboard so I will have to work on that one.
We are close to our verry own Live CD here
Video coming up....

Back again with the latest: <----------ahahahahahaha, US keyboard!
(version 0.0.42)
Login screen worked with user.user and the background chooser popped up to have the nice berserkview. There is the panel and cairo-dock so this is very sophisticated, even a clipboard, tyvm!
I don't know that f-spot, the new graphics program would allow me to edit screenies but it wouldn't start:
with error console:
dhcp automatically configured itself.
Better and better.

Re: Building your own Linux distro
Thanks The F-spot is duly noted -Ill replace it. You can edit the tint2 panel from the menu now both the panel height and the tray icon size. You will find it under Desktop ...somewhere.

Re: Building your own Linux distro
I see that others have started cloning our little CD - We have to take that as a compliment
There are not to many working openbox builds over at Susestudio so I guess we are hot now
Most of the goodies are not visible though like ddrescue so I have to add some more gui stuff now to fill out the menu...
Ok published version 0.0.45 F-spot removed and replaced by two working viewers. Added smartmontools and other CLI tools.

Re: Building your own Linux distro
I've never tried to have a dock on top or the sides, pretty conservative, I guess.
However, with one customizable tint2 on the bottom and self-hiding cairo-dock on top, it should be pretty similar. I put XFCE on a spare parts computer I put together for a friend for if she ever gets internet and that looks not too bad on the old Acer monitor.
Good luck with Woof
I did not go on to look through the blog link but he speaks of adding rpm functionality in that old page.
