Microsoft to charge royalty fees to prevent Acer, Asustek from using Android in netbooks, say Taiwan makers:
MS to prevent Asustek and Acer from using Android

But because Acer and Asustek are international vendors of netbook PCs, the actual motivation of Microsoft's royalty charge is to keep Acer and Asustek from using Google Android or Chrome OS instead of Windows Mobile for their netbook or tablet PCs, the sources pointed out.

Of course it will be royalty free if they choose MS applications. Microsoft at work again! Can any one remember the days when they actually produced software? Apparently HTC does pay these royalties.
Not bad for a company that "stole" DOS from a poor student.
The bully image is perfect and everybody is scared. Nice going Microsoft. The good news is: Taiwan is not America! And you can sell it as you like WITHOUT PAYING MS ANYTHING in Europe, right now!

If Microsoft asks; you point to:
Article 52, point 2c in the European Patent Convention (EPC)
It clearly states that software patents do not apply in the EU. No FUD from Microsoft can change that. So Acer and Asustek there is a market of over 300 Million people ready for you right now.
It would be my warm recommendation to ignore this Microsoft threat. If you "bend over" and put Microsoft software on the stuff then I am convinced that your market share will suffer.
Why? Because we do not like bullies over here.

Even if we do have a culture in the southern parts of Italy that has heavily inspired Microsoft.
