This turned up on the mailing list:

Followed by the general bla bla bla here:

Preceding this, the Open Solaris board was kept in the dark and put on the sideline to such an extent that they all threatened to leave if communication with Oracle was not improved.

I guess they have their loud and clear answer now and so do we!
Mysql and Java are endangered too now. Let me remind you all that this site is Mysql driven and so are most of the sites on the Internet.
This could get expensive and exclusive.
:S And we sure are against that :!:
Oracle has managed to destroy all the goodwill Sun has built up in the last ten years. They just got rid of a competitor - that sux.
It would have been illegal too if they had flagged this "interest" when buying them IMO.
word my grandmother dislikes - Oracle.
Step on their toes wherever you can - you have my permission

Yeah, it's been coming on for some time. There's a "save MySQL" site, and advocacy group. I'll have to look it up for you when I've had some rest (remind me please).

Yes Oracle can not be trusted in Open source matters anymore, after having slammed the door in it's face. I think this Mysql fork http://askmonty.org/wiki/MariaDB:Download
will get popular now.

Good article there, and it more or less confirms the header here: Open Solaris is dead. The ex-developers have spent a lot of time competing with Linux and also closing part of the code.
It has been a a competitive system that has had it's day in the sun. No one can question the competence of the people involved. So lets welcome them to improve on Linux.
I am sure they can - and Linux has the momentum that Solaris lacked.

Well, well, well, Boss, was going thru my junk mail in Hotmail tonight, and guess what I came across in there?

Oracle Product Launch - Business Intelligence 11g - You're Invited?
From: [email protected] 08/12/10

The rest of the email is here.

Know what I did?

Left it in my junk mail folder to get deleted on next clean-out. :P
