Norwgian Banks drop Java

The Norwegian banks are tired of the constant insecurities and updates in Java.

Oracle has not managed to create the confidence in Java. What alternative they are testing is still a secret....

I suspect those banks are a bit behind the times. I haven't had Java enabled in any of my browsers for some time and my online banking has worked without problems with my Canadian and UK bank accounts. That visitor Map you have here, however, doesn't work - it wants me to activate Java. :naughty:

Yup If you click it - you need Java. It has been a good cross platform language for years - before Oracle came along....
What are your Banks using ?- In Norway all banks, from every nation, have used Java via an association called Bank ID (owned by the Banks).

I was afraid of a "sponsored by Microsoft" solution here....

I've no idea what they use, I just know that I don't have Java enabled and I can use the online banking functions. Of course, there could be some exotic bank service that does use Java, but I can't imagine what it might be and it would obviously be something that I've never needed. I'm not rich enough to need anything more than basic banking services. :-D

It looks like they will be going for a solution with html5 CCS3 and Javascript....and a Dongle. But they have no idea when it is going to be ready. And Bank ID state that it is not the actual security of Java that is the problem.. but how people regard the security.

Now there is :bsflag if I ever have heard it.....

Now that you mention it, I do have a dongle for my UK bank account, but I've only had to use it very occasionally. I think that there is at least one UK bank (I've forgotten which) that requires use of a dongle for all on-line banking activity.

FYI, confirming java isn't needed for U.S. accounts either. At least mine doesn't, and a few others I know of. Haven't for years.
