Linux just got better - through competition!

The good old competitor Microsoft has not been able to compete with Linux in a way that is good for the consumers. Because the "competition" happens on all other arenas than the product.
The blocking and protection money strategies, do not stimulate to better products on either side

But now the internal competition in the Linux world just benefited the users - big time:
The way to make money in the Linux world is support and RedHat just announced that they would prolong their support life cycles to 10 years. Of course Oracle could not sit by and just watch, so they decided to offer it too.
And yes you probably guessed it: SUSE has decided to offer it "up to" ten years.
The big potential winners are partners and customers that are trying to maintain long-term IT road maps involving Linux data centers.

I am glad the Linux business model strive on service rather than License.

MS can tell you that Licensing when you have good competition just plain sucks.

Well, good. Maybe that opens up the job market in IT for Linux. :)

That would be great, as that's what I'm going into when I grow up.
