My son has a lappy that he's run for some 3-4 yrs now with Mandriva 2008.1 that we're thinking of upgrading. To what we're not sure yet, but it is a good line computer. I'll see if I can get him in here to post about it. From what I know of these, they are good lappies, even new...

my laptop is far from the best

if you like fiddling with network issues and not getting the main GPU to work, sure have a laugh, but other then that i wouldn't recommend it.
I think there are some asus computers with linux support, you should check out asus.com and see if i'm right

What is your laptop? Arch will soon have a nvidia driver that can handle the Intel/Nvidia combo ( Optimus ).

I have a Dell D800 and D600. All my systems has Mandriva 2010.1
The D800 with the nVidia Go video adapter seems a bit glitchy, when it goes on the screen saver it turns white and later in multicolors, you have to cold boot it.
The D600 runs fine and does not do that, also I added 2 GB RAM
Both systems runs on Intel 2200 wireless cards and all the hardware seems to work just fine (except for that video weird thing on my D800).
I have an Asus Eee PC 1008HA and all works like charm. Actually, is the best running laptop.
The other system that I need to try is Panasonic Toughbook that has mandriva 2009.1 but I have not installed the newest MDV yet. The touchcreen did not work with any Linux editions, but the rest of the hardware works just fine.
I had a Dell D620 that worked really well with MDV 2009 until my house was broken into and got stolen.

Since he's working all week and on into next week, I'm going to post for my son. His lappy is an HP - the drivers we can get for it for Linux straight from the site, and it's never once failed him (even after he's lost keys on the keyboard). I know of others that have HPs too, who highly recommend them. I'll get his model # when I can SMS him again.
