Opinions on latest video drivers?

Have a hard drive with old Mandriva 2008.1 (and no, I will not upgrade it to 2010 or anything else, please don't go there; it's been the most stable of that distribution so far for me). Haven't updated the Nvidia drivers on it since the 2008.1 days. I'm wondering if I should go download the latest, and install it? The video's beginning to lag a tad on this thing. Currently:

Code: Select all

$ rpm -qa | grep nvidia
dkms-nvidia-current-173.14.12-2mdv2008.1
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-173.14.12-2mdv2008.1
nvidia-current-doc-html-173.14.12-2mdv2008.1

Nvidia Geforce 7300 GT still.

According to the Nvidia site, the current is:

Code: Select all

Version:

195.36.24 Certified
Release Date:

2010.04.28
Operating System:

Linux
Language:

English (U.S.)
File Size:

32.3 MB

Opinions welcome of this driver.

Thanks.

I am not sure what to tell you. It is OK I guess. System is stable and login in and out works just fine - no hickupps.
But in Firefox animations look like shaite - I think that is FF tho...
Compiz and Kwin are stable The usual compiz FUPS seem to be fixed. I am on (Cooker) RC here and most seems to be working fine.
I have some strange sound and mouse issues in Warzone2001(Some sequenses are without sound and moving mouse down does not work - cant tell if that is the game or the driver - it used to work tho.. It probably is the game.
So I think they are just fine.
