Ubuntu has done a good job of certifying hardware that runs with Linux:

Used to be a HCL in Mandriva/Mandrake but people did not reported properly or lets say, was not implemented properly.

At one point, was pretty good. *buntu might have the same advantages and flaws.

Yes I remember the Mandriva database. It was a great idea and it never was maintained. Makes me wonder what those employed people did. Because that would be one piece of important issue for me it I was to migrate to Linux with all my hardware. IOW that would be good business.
I think the Ubuntu guys are a bit more aware of this.

The Mandriva HCL was volunteer based; or seems to be.

I remember when you loaded on the Computer a small survey used to come out to fill the HCL.

Also, you could add another system or hardware.

Most people just ignored them or hardly changed any; like me :lol:
