Which One is the Best File System?

I have been using ReiserFS for the longest time and seems to be a pretty good File System (FS) for what I see.

My question to all, which one is the very best (overall performance). The reason that I am asking is the Mandriva 2011 is going to release the Power Pack soon and will like to blow the root file system out of the water to do a clean install. I have other systems that can benefit from a "better" FS if any.

What are your guys thought?

I have used reiserfs for more than 11 years. There is nothing I know that would compel me to use another but I don't spend a lot of time chasing the various benchmark reports. http://fsbench.netnation.com/ "There are lies, damn lies and benchmarks... "

Also, http://www.debian-administration.org/ar ... omment_138 "extx3 disables barriers by default, but xfs and reiserfs enable it by default. If enabled there should be (if you believe the kernel people) a 30% penalty for ext3." I don't know whether that is a lie or a damn lie but it's apropos of Fearless Leader's Kernel 3.1 report. Simply said, idk :confused but I like reiserfs! :berserk2

Well the Gurus use ReiserFS so that counts! I have been using Ext4 and I am happy with it and I have never used ReiserFS so I have no clue if it is better. :confused
We are a conservative lot: If we have something that works, why change it :-D
Ah I found the absolute truth here:

I guess it is solved then :-D

What got me is the creator is in jail now and I do not know what would happen to the project. DARPA is funding the project according to Wikipedia and I do not want to hang on to a FS that might be left in the dark. So that is why I have been looking for a suitable candidate.

Well Ext4 is suitable! That much I can say.

ReiserFS or nothing for me. EXTx - whatever number you put after it, is a PITA on my system. I refuse to use it except for Arch's root (which won't let me change it for some reason on install). BTRFS, still too experimental in my book to be stable yet. I've seen both good and bad reports on it. NTFS, well, y'know... lol. Reiser4? Nah, too new, and IMO would be unstable even if I haven't tested it yet.

eh...well some threads here indicate that you are suffering from the PITA anyway
