I have a knoppix based distro called operator
its a cool distro with some great apps for pen testing
I demonstrated the network apps one time in a police station
and we had one of those usb toys that looked like a missile launcher
the start up sound bite (weapons online) and the launcher tracking people had them almost in a state of panic
until we explained it. then they got a good laugh out of it

with operator you can monitor net traffic with ethereal and etherape
either one can display the isp, mac address, and other info that can help you catch the spammers.
( Ive caught and located bot nets with it )
