I've thought of giving it a shot myself. I've given it a run on a livecd and it was pretty fast, but it did feel outdated. Could be that I'm used to having all the shiny features from the major players that I had high expectations?

Well Puppy is a charming and brilliant piece of Software. Putting it in RAM and making it fast on any computer is nice. OS and rescue disk in your pocket. If you pull out your USB pen and demonstrate it to the average Win user I think some of them could be converted to Linux.

When I was trying Puppy, I thought it was neat how various configurations, files, and software installations could be written back to the CD/DVD, I guess usb flash, to have that on subsequent boots. Puppy was the first I noticed to have this feature, don't know if it exists elsewhere.

I have not heard of any other distro having it. It is a charmer.

there are also newer versions of puppy out there that run pretty good
I installed teenpup in my boys computer a while ago and he's had a blast with it
It has about anything a teen or young adult would want and a neat gui
It also has the great apps for file recovery and dd functions as well

Nice. Thinking more and more on this one. In particular, since it seems that neither Arch nor Fedora know how to do nvidia drivers.

It seems with a little work you can build puppy based on various distros.
