Win7 conecting to Linux server -GRRR

I have set up my sambas and all the Linux boxes find the server. So I dualboot into Win 7 and nothing from the Linux network is visible. :f This has been a problem with Win7 for a long time and must be a show stopper for businesses. :hand:
I have tweaked the registry and done everything here:

with no luck. :wall:
Win7 really blows regarding networking. The neat little home group thing, does only work amongst Win7 boxes.

So CEO's out there: You will have to wait before you migrate to Win7. Its communication skills is nowhere near XP and even Vista.
Win7 is the Win version that does not communicate with Linux servers - that could be potentially expensive for you.

from what ive read on this
win 7 can read samba shares but it is very difficult to set up
and win 7 was designed this way.
to require you to use their tech support to solve the issues (which you have to pay for of course)
setting up on a multi-platform network presents a lot of issues to deal with,
even more so when the os is deigned to make it difficult to do so
primarily win 7 was designed for the individual user for websurfing, mutimedia, gaming, etc.

the best networking version microsoft made was win nt (between 95 and 98)
and it could recognize and connect to any platform
many industries still use it yet because of its stability in an industrial network

cross platform networking can be a real headache!
after some research last night I found 4 links that might be helpful
the second link in bold has the most info on it that I've seen.
I hope these can help

Thanks! Many of those links are outdated they speak of :
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy
Select: Local Policies -> Security Options

Windows7 ultimate has no Adminstrative tools in the menu so here is a tip coming up:
Open cmd as administrator and type;

Code: Select all

secpol.msc

That will take you to the security options.
Where all those settings can be altered. My problem is that I have done it and it still does not work :wall:
