Microsoft is loosing business over Prism

Postby viking60 » 13 Nov 2013, 13:37

The Norwegian Telecom giant Telenor had planned to drop their own e.mail sevices and move them over to Microsoft Office 365.

This would imply that the Telenor business clients would entrust their e-mails to Microsoft servers outside the country.

This would put all their customers in the category "foreigners" in NSA terms, with little to no respect for privacy.

Some customers reacted to this, and apparently enough for Telenor to drop the plans, so they decided to continue their own platform.
The NSA surveillance in the US and around the world, is the direct reason that is given for this.

Customers that want to use Office 365 will have to actively demand it.

This kind of represents a hair in the soup for both Microsoft and Telenor.
Telenor has been marketing "Your complete office in the sky" for a long time; meaning Office 365.

Since the small print leaves all the risk on the hands of the customer regarding risk assessment - it would be a neglection to go for a Microsoft cloud with the given facts at hand.

Telenor does diplomatically add that there has been no big storm from their corporate customers to avoid Office365.

It might have something to do with their own risk assessments. They have instructed their sales personal to be very clear about the fact that the data are being moved out of Norway if Office 365 is chosen.

Yet another thing to thank Snowden for.
