Why doesn't IBM just buy Novell already?

I actually started pondering this a few days before the Novell-SCO ruling on Tuesday clearly put Novell in an important position as a “[defender of] Linux on the intellectual property front.” Why, you ask, would a Googley Edu blogger be thinking about major players in the enterprise Linux market? Because I can see an open source showdown in the making here, the beneficiaries of which will be consumers, SMBs, enterprises, and educational institutions. I don’t get the feeling the showdown will be any fun, though, if Novell is left to its own devices.....
What do you think of this?

Dude, I can hardly describe Ubuntu as "sexy" the way he did.

I'm seeing two things here. SCO is a money-grubbing pig of a corporation (but then what larger corporation isn't), and Novell is hanging in there with Open Source. I could care less if Apple or M$ own them, so long as they themselves remain Open Source.

So really, at the end of the day, what's the problem here?

Yes he does not seem to be very informed about Linux. And who said there was a problem? I just wanted some views on it. I have yours.
Larger corporation's are money-grubbing pigs. I can understand Large and money-grubbing - but why pigs? Corporations are mostly expected to grub money that is the idea - kind of. What would you like the large corporations to do?

Invest a portion into treating and paying their employees well, as well as lower their costs, which can pass on to the consumer. Same thing everyone wants, I guess.

Also, not be involved politically; throw lobbying away, etc. etc., so they can't corrupt politicians.
