Sony removes the Linux support

Postby viking60 » 02 Apr 2010, 14:02

One of the uniqe funtions in PlayStation 3 was the possibility to install third party OS'es like Linux. This possibility has been removed in the new Slim line. On the older versions you still can install Linux.

But now the last software-update will remove the Linux support for good - no matter what box you have.

Dangerous
Sony explains that this is done for sercurity reasons. The Linux support could be potentially used for less noble purposes. It is the 3.21 version of the software that will remove this posibillity. And it will be out today.

Sony explains that the users of Linux still can do so, if they choose not to install the upgrade, but that will ofcourse make it impossible to achieve the new functions, and to log on to PSN and play on the net.
