ImageThey are letting the US developers go. The given reason is somewhat hard to believe though.
Attachmate is moving swiftly to re-organize the Novell business it acquired for $2.2 billion.

Today Attachmate laid off an unknown number of U.S. based Novell developers that were working on the open source Mono project.

Mono is the Novell led effort to provide an open source implementation of the Microsoft .NET framework on Linux.
"We have re-established Nuremburg as the headquarters of our SUSE business unit and the prioritization and resourcing of certain development efforts - including Mono - will now be determined by the business unit leaders there," said Jeff Hawn, Chairman and CEO of The Attachmate Group in a statement sent to InternetNews.com. "This change led to the release of some US based employees today. As previously stated, all technology roadmaps remain intact with resources being added to those in a manner commensurate with customer demand."

There never is a layoff that makes sense here in the U.S.
Outsourcing is rampant, people are relocating to get away from the taxes and b.s. - it's baaaaaaad here, and this sure won't help our employment numbers a bit.

I am not sure about this - Germany is no Tax haven.

Depends on where they stay based. Germany, or here. If they move completely to Germany, then yeah, the taxes will be bad. But, if they remain as an outsourced/offshore company based in the U.S., they got all kinds of tax breaks coming, on top of not having to pay those employees. Either way, it will hurt our employment numbers.
