For GNOME 3, the GNOME Project has started from scratch and created a completely new, modern desktop designed for today's users and technologies.

It is has instant messages built inn. Deeper Hardware integration, Faster Apps access, Easier window management, Faster and smoother +++
The Desktop look and feel is nothing like the old Gnome so it will take some getting used to for conservative Gnomers. Traditionally we can expect total stability from Gnome and it has been low on resources too.
We have given it a thorough spin here

I am not sure I like it. It is a totally new approach and does not work like good ol' Gnome

Well, it wasn't expected to, either. I myself knew that a huge change was coming, similar to KDE when they went to KDE4. I've seen a LOT of videos on it, and watched followed it like a hawk from the time it was born; even did a bit of testing for it. It is completely different; however, they put a hell of a lot of real honest to god work into it for it to be as stable as it could possibly be.

I want to give it a shot. My only worry right now about it is if my single gig of RAM can handle it.

I wish KDE had a Light version for low powered systems. GNOME could benefit from such idea too.

Gnome really hasn't needed it up 'til Gnome 3. It may not even then. Remains to be seen by this kid.

Yes I second that. So far Gnome has been fine, and also compiz. KDE uses way more CPU. But I can say this; If Gnome 3 uses as much CPU as KDE I will probably switch.

Well, if Gnome uses as much as KDE, and if what KDE uses is too high, then what else is there left to switch to.

Home Computers now day they are power houses, so most of the resources are untapped. Most people demand eye candy if you want to make it (Windows?). So is natural for KDE and GNOME to bump it up a Nickel to make it prettier.

By the way, have anybody tried Moblin? I have it on my Mandriva Laptops and freezes when you open the Browser.

What I want is support for touch screens, is the way of the future.
