Yes, but can we run it on a gig of ram, is what I want to know. The release I'm on now in Arch, which is the one just prior to this one, runs very slowly, and feels heftily bloated.

So, it's torqued. I've upgraded the machine - the kernel is fine, but KDE4.6 isn't. :( I tried logging into KDE after upgrading KDE and a reboot, but kio-slave crashes on login, and it won't let me do anything else with it. It wouldn't even let me save the bug report. Next update, I guess. Sigh.

Edit: Ah. It appears actually to be KCMinit that's crashing on login, which in turn makes kioslave crash. That's what it says when it pops up anyway, although I can't find a "kcminit" package in the repos?

On login:

On trying to file a bug on it, and looking for files it needed to do so:

On trying to save the crash report (I had clicked to "Save" to my documents folder, then that window immediately crashed and popped this up):

Anyone else (on Arch) seeing this?

Updating now....
Logged into KDE 4.6 and it looked very cool. switched to kwin and clicked on another desktop - and my screen went black! Only conky is visible :o
rebooting...
No network and no internet and lots of plasma chrashes
Working on getting the network up...
OK fixed it now lets have a look at KDE 4.6....
Looks good and works like... KDE ;) When adding the easy SSH connection to the desktop - plasma will crash! But the quick start widget is nice! Lots of opportunities and good looks. No wonder KDE is the "talk of the town" in every forum. There is a lot happening there! And if you want stability you go for Gnome +1
Your crashes didn't happen here - I have my own :arrogant: :-D When trying to set up the "Easy SSH connection" widget KDE crashes every time - can you confirm that?

Yeah, jemadux is reporting network issues to me too on I.M. - he may come in and post about it, who knows. *shrug*

Have your replaced network with networkmanager in your daemons? When done you could try to start it with

Code: Select all

/etc/rc.d/networkmanager start

That will bring up the network. But the Easy SSH widget will still crash every time.

Looks like we aren't the only ones with issues with this. Note the version number of the KDE packages. They're downgrading us:

Just upgraded to the downgrade above, and it's fine now. I'm in, with no errors so far. It had to be in one of the kde-pim packages. I do like having more screen space like we do in KDE, but the trade-off still isn't good enough to me, so, back to Gnome. And, to bed. :P
