Google the Microsoft of Cell phones?

Postby viking60 » 21 Nov 2010, 23:12

Interesting story here

Android might indeed become the Windows of the mobile world. But that does not make Google its Microsoft.

Now James Allworth at the Harvard Business Review has written his own report detailing those costs, and calls them substantial.

* Because Google exerts no control of Android, Baidu is working with smartphone makers to strip all references to it from phones shipped within China.
* Verizon and Motorola have both shipped Android phones with Bing, not Google, as the default search engine.

The result is Google may find itself paying for search traffic on phones it designed. Carriers, not Google, are in the driver’s seat.

So basically we have an Android with Microsoft's Bing as the search engine?

Wow. World sure has gone upside-down lately... literally.

This hurts the brain trying to keep up with all this cell phone stuff, y'know? It's all like very surreal. (1984 anyone?)

What I have is a Blackberry, my wife has an HTC Aria with Android. I have not decided if I want an Archos Tablet or an Blackberry Tablet. My choice is more towards the Archos Tablet with Gingerbread OS.

What I am trying to stay away is from Apple or anything that has to be MS.

The Bing on Android is more of a Carrier crap-ola. So, and I hope, someone will come with a Tablet Distro so I can reflash it.

The time will come, when you can buy a phone anyway you want and chose the distro of choice with the service provider of choice.

Just a matter of time :D

Past experience demonstrates best method to tighten bolts is to use appropriate size spanners.

Oh yes I want a Docomo! But then again I have this problem with my phone being my wallet my ticket and everything run in the cloud. In Japan you can truly track every person 24/7 and know exactly when he went to the public toilet and bought a coke. But man that is tempting. The road to Hell always is I guess

I would love to have that overhead thing though.....
