Gaming: Desura client can become open source

Desura client has been developed and tested as closed beta by invitation. Currently there is only one developer and he is beginning to feel a bit alone. The Desura client is fully featured.
It also includes a smart library system in which the client scans a Linux distribution to find required libraries and suggests missing/conflicting libraries/tools required to play the game. This ensures maximum compatibility over a large number of different Linux distributions.
One nice feature is the option to play demos of the game you want to spend your hard earned money on. This way you can test that it works on Linux before you buy,
Now the developers are considering to make it open source.
Way to go!

By a coincidence I just installed Desura last night.
Installed few games and they all working very good, the client itself also is very nice and polished. There is a Linux Gamers clan you can join if you want to.
Not too many games you can choose from but some are solid games (Penumbra, Amnesia, Oil rush etc.)
All in all seems too good to be true, hope it doesn't die like Djl did.

Not all their games are Linux native ones. At least one of them (forgot the name) is installed with a Wine wrapper.
While this can upset the purists (there is a whole bunch of them almost hating the Wine project) it opens the possibility of installing a LOT of games.

And I sure hope this project will survive too. It is important that Linux can handle as much as possible. Interopt. is a major feature for all systems these days.
The purist approach is important as a security net though. It is what we always can fall back upon when MS goes EEEing. But that should not stop us from doing some EEEing ourselves

I might - but there really is no need to, as we have this Gaming Berserk that will report regularly.
..But I think I will install the beta in Arch since it is in the AUR.
