A good image viewer

I have always had problems with what opens my pics when I click them.
Sure, Okular has a lot of functions but it is kind of an overkill for viewing the pictures.
Gwenview has navigtion and manipulation functions but there is a lot of stuff to take the attention from the pictures there too, The Gnome image viewer is clean enough but there is not much else you can do with it.

None of these are lightweight enough to simply view the pics and give you a fast overview of all the pics in the directory. And once you have found a pic to edit, you have limited options.

I found a nice solution in Mirage, here I can view the images and se thumbs of the images in the directory and I can set up Gimp to edit the pick directly from the viewer.

In fact it is in the default settings. The problem was that it would not start gimp-remote-2.4. After a short check in Gimp I discovered that I had Gimp 2.6.x.x so this was no wonder.
In Mirage I went to Edit->Custom Actions->Configure and replaced gimp-remote-2.4 %F with gimp-remote-2.6 %F in the command prompt.
After that I can go to Custom Actions and pick Gimp from the menu and I can edit right away.
Just one of those programs that make life a little bit easier...

I'll have to look at mirage. We were just using glenview to organize photos and movies from an HTC 4G phone, this morning. I'm pretty happy with the browser and view modes, copy to, move to, delete, open with gimp/fotoxx, depending on the type of operation needed. When viewing the .3gp movies, it was nice to just click the 'next' arrow to load the next file quickly in gwenview's internal player. Thanks for the heads-up. :greetings

Yeah Gwenview has a lot - It is the "clean" look that is better in Mirage IMO. Gwenview is leaning more to the "editor" side. And we are talking about viewers here....

Ever gone to "Edit" in the upper right of gthumb? Or turned on Browser mode in it at the upper left? Or used it to run a slideshow? Or had a pic up and at the same time had thumbnails at the bottom of it? Or turned on the sidebar? Or hit properties of a pic with it? Or just used "Next" and "Previous" with it? Or checked out the "View" menu in it? Or used "Import to" or "Export to" in it? Or checked out the Edit--->Preferences menu in it? Or used the "Go" menu in it? Or checked out that "Comment" button? Or right-clicked a pic you had open in it, and used the "Open With" (Gimp included) menu or "Add to catalog" or "Tags" options there?

It's great that we now have this new proggie that may or may not have all this, but with such little available time, I just use what's built into the Gnome desktop.

(And yes, you're welcome to call me smart-ass, but I check out what I have thoroughly before I abandon what's already on/in my desktop. This is only one of the reasons I'm such a huge Gnome supporter.)
