Unity

As an alternative to Gnome3 Canonicals Unity stands out, so I thought I would have a look:
As you can see I have no clue how to use it. The workspace selection is a disaster and I just cannot find any advantages here. It is horrible. The favorite bar keeps disappearing and I cannot drag programs to the workspaces. It must be that some of the functions do not work in VB or something. It is hard to believe someone has made this on purpose. Do feel free to show me the errors of my ways here.
The "windows key" will toggle the modes and give the search mode and it is ok. But IMHO this is light years away from Gnome3. Please feel free to show me the errors of my ways. I don't think I will test this much more.
