its apparent his death was due to pneumonia evidently he tried to do a show when he was quite ill.

Pneumonia id often the reason when the body is weakened. Sadly in the music business this weakness can often be caused by certain "refreshments" - I dunno if that is the case here but it is a tradition in the popular music business.
Seems like being creative and performing has a price. And he sure was creative and a great performer....

There is rumor around that prescription drugs were involved; let us leave it that way. Also, heard an interview with him few hours back about having vaulted a huge amount of tracks. He said, someday, after he dies, it will be unarchived for all to hear. Ironic is not? Adam Curry was invited to one of his parties back in the early 90s. He said they were playing songs from him never heard of.
Will not be surprised that will be several albums of music never heard from him.

Yes I have heard that he has lots and lots of unpublished material too.
I saw this posted on FB just after he died (I never was much of a fan but...). Best tribute I've seen yet (a George Harrison tribute, but Prince shows his real stuff here), shows what Prince could really do, and not what mainstream b.s. money-machine music wants to say he can do.
Edit for addendum: He seriously hit his full potential as a player then ^. I think the others followed suit I think in it as well. I love how he just struts right off the stage like "it was nothing, m'dears."
